Why Is WordPress A Good Platform For Developing Websites

Hey, it’s Leo, thanks for dropping by. One of my private coaching students asked me. Why is WordPress a good platform for developing websites?

Great question and it got me thinking maybe it’s something you’ve been wondering about too.

Because the content management system (CMS) you choose to build your business upon is a crucial decision because it will determine how well your website runs.

Choose an inferior system and your business will never see its full potential. Or worse never get off the ground at all!

So with that in mind, I thought I would share with you the 9 reasons why I feel WordPress is such an excellent platform for building your online business.

Why Is WordPress A Good Platform For Developing Websites?

WordPress is such a great platform for developing a website because it’s very flexible, constantly updated, extensively tested, and user-friendly. The bottom line is when you use WordPress you’re using a time-tested trusted platform. Plus it’s…

1 – Open Source and Free

Since WordPress is open source. This means you can download and install it for free and you’re good to go.

Now WordPress itself is free but you will need to choose and purchase a good domain name and pay for hosting for your website in order to install WordPress.

There are several registers where you can purchase your domain name. The one I use is Name Cheap. You’ll find that a domain name will cost you less than $15.00 per year.

As for hosting, again you have several host providers to choose from. Personally, I use HostGator. I have been using their hosting since 2005.

2 – User Friendly

WordPress is very easy for beginners to use. Oh yes, like anything new there is a bit of a learning curve. But it makes maintaining your own website very easily without having to be a technical wizard.

Through the simple dashboard, you’ll find different options in the side menu that allows you to create both posts and pages, customize your website, create navigational menus and so much more.

3 – SEO-Friendly

You could have the best product or service available through your website. But if your website is getting zero website traffic. You and your website will never see any online success.

That’s why having an SEO-friendly website is so important to the success of your website. Lucky for us WordPress has been built to be SEO-friendly right out of the gate for both desktop and mobile users.

And you can step up your website’s SEO game by using specifically made SEO plugins such as the All In One SEO WordPress plugin.

All In One SEO is used by over 3 million websites and it’s the SEO plugin I use.

It’s very easy to install and set up using their configuration wizard. It will definitely up your website’s SEO game as it has for my websites.

4 – Supports Multiple Users

With WordPress, you can add multiple users. This is why large organizations love WordPress because they can grant access to different departments.

For example, they can grant access to the publishing department which can then take care of all the publishing duties for the company.

But it’s not large companies that enjoy this feature, as a website owner you can grant any level of access you want to someone. You have 4 levels of access that you can give someone.

You have:

  • Administrator
  • Editor
  • Author
  • Contributor

Administrative access gives a person full access to the functionality of your entire website. More often than not this level of access is for you and you alone.

Editor access, allows someone the ability to publish and edit their own post as well as other posts. Author access allows someone to publish and manage their own posts.

And Contributor access only allows someone to create and manage posts. They cannot publish posts.

5 – Plenty Of Learning Resources

You’re definitely not on your own when it comes to WordPress. Along with support from WordPress itself.

There are plenty of additional support resources available to you. You can find WordPress on Facebook, Reddit, Quora, and Linkedin groups. And you can also find YouTube channels dedicated to WordPress.

6 – You Control Everything 100%

Compared to other platforms such as Wix, where you don’t own your website, domain name, or content.

All the content is hosted exclusively on Wix servers and cannot be exported elsewhere. The only thing you can export in XML format is blog posts.

Everything else such as images, pages, and videos you have to download manually. You can’t even change the design template of your website. Once you choose one that’s it.

With WordPress you own and control everything related to your website, the content, the data, images, etc, everything is yours.

You own the domain name because you purchased one through a register like Name Cheap. You’re in charge of the hosting because you have signed up with a web host such as HostGator.

And with the export feature inside WordPress, you can download all your content which includes posts, pages, comments, custom fields, terms, navigation menus, and custom posts in an XML file.

And if you choose you can easily migrate your entire website to another hosting platform.

As I said you’re in 100% control and ownership of your website (business). You definitely don’t want your business to be held hostage as you would with Wix or other similar platforms.

7 – WordPress Is Easy To Customize

wordpress themes

You don’t have to be a tech or web design expert to create the website you want.

With WordPress, you have access to both free and paid themes and plugins. There are thousands upon thousands of themes to choose from, each allowing you to customize the theme to suit your business needs.

For example, I’m often asked what theme I use, and the one I’m using and recommend is Generate Press.

And it makes no difference if you’re experienced with WordPress themes or you are a beginner. Creating a professional-looking website with Generate Press is very easy.

Plus you also have a huge community and support from the creators you can lean on when you need a hand.

When it comes to themes and what you can do. The skies the limit. You can do everything from changing the font to the layout, colors, and background. You can upload your logo, etc.

And with the block editor in WordPress, your customization options have gotten even greater. And if you’re using a page builder such as Thrive Architect you can do even more customization. In fact, I used Thrive Architect to create this site’s homepage.

And if you have the capabilities you can even go as far as to customize the code of your theme.

But honestly, 99% of people that use WordPress never need to get into the code of their website. And the reason being is along with thousands of themes to choose from you have thousands of plugins as well.

And with these plugins, you can bring a variety of functions to your website.

For example, you can add contact forms, option forms, memberships, site backup, sliders, and so much more.

If there is a function you want to add to your website, there’s a plugin for it.

8 – WordPress Is Secure

WordPress is a very safe and secure platform to run your website on.

But with that said no content management system is 100% secure. And because of that WordPress can be a target for hackers and malicious software.

But in order to make sure your site is always secure you must ensure that WordPress is kept up to date. This also includes any plugins you’re using as well as your theme.

So anytime you see a notification that WordPress or your theme or plugins need to be updated. Don’t delay, and update what needs to be updated.

You can also make your website even more secure with the addition of security plugins. There are plenty of these plugins to choose from. Personally, I use Word Fence which is the leader in WordPress security.

9 – Easy For Content Creation

content creation

Creating content within WordPress is a snap. And with the constant upgrades of the Block Editor. Creating content that stands out just keeps getting easier and easier.

And with scheduling capabilities, you can create content in advance and have it automatically published on the day and time of your choosing.

I love this feature because it gives you the ability to create a content cushion for yourself. You can create as many pieces of content as you want in advance, and schedule them to go out when you want.

This way you have a content cushion giving you the freedom to work on other areas of your business, still knowing you’re meeting your own content publishing schedule.

Can WordPress Handle Millions Of Users?

Yes, WordPress can handle millions of users. Some of the largest websites that are getting millions of users are powered by WordPress.

But here’s the thing to remember. WordPress is just a content management system. It’s the software that’s your website. It’s the posts, media files, categories, etc.

The amount of traffic you’re getting to your website is not dependent on WordPress itself. It’s your website’s hosting that’s going to determine the traffic your website can handle.

It requires a lot of server resources for websites that get hundreds of thousands or millions of visitors to their website.

So if you’re on a limited hosting plan such as shared hosting, no, your website will not be able to accommodate larger volumes of traffic.

And if that’s the case you’re going to need to upgrade your hosting. And the choices you have are Cloud Hosting, Dedicated hosting. Or like I have VPS hosting.

What Kinds of Websites Can You Create With WordPress?

The great thing about WordPress is how flexible it is. You can create a very basic website using WordPress.

Or you can create a full-blown eCommerce marketplace and everything in between.

Here are some of the websites you can create using WordPress:

  • Membership website
  • Blog
  • Online store
  • Portfolio website
  • Knowledge Website
  • Magazine

Wrapping Things Up

There’s a reason that 43% of all websites are powered by WordPress. And that’s because it’s a solid, flexible, user-friendly platform to build any type of website on.

No matter what your online plans are. Be it a blog or creating an online business. WordPress has you covered.
