Well simply – it’s taking data or content and then organizing it into graphics, maps and charts thus creating a visual story.
Why Do Infographics Work?
They work because…
- We are wired visually and can absorb information easier and faster this way
- They’re more engaging – and it beats reading large amounts of content
- More accessible
- More persuasive
- It’s easier for people to recall what they’ve seen – then what they’ve read
- It’s easy to digest and make things easier to understand
- It combats information overload
- It can increase traffic to your site – a good infographic can spread quickly online
- Gives you the ability to reach new and different audiences
- Extremely engaging
- Allows you to showcase your knowledge
Design Your Infographic In 3 Steps
1) Pick Your Topic
Infographics work best when there are “how to” or “step by step” styles. Most people are searching online for advice/information on how to do something or accomplish something.
So for example maybe you have a lot of existing content about “how to generate traffic using Social Media”. Take this content re-purpose it and have your infographic outline how this can be done.

Some people even use post it notes so they can post everything on a wall and have the ability to move things around.
Or maybe you work better by sketching things out on a piece of paper. No matter what way you choose to use just get thing down – you can organize things later so everything flows.
3) Brand Your Infographic
You have remember you want your infographic to be shared. So make sure you have any calls to action on there as well as your branding.
After you have posted your infographic on your site you want to post you newly created infographic through your own social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus and Pinterest so they have the chance to be shared by your audience.
