Alright, let’s see what Origami Owl is all about.

So, What Is Origami Owl?

Origami Owl was started in 2010 with the home office in Chandler, Arizona. As the story goes Bella Weems who is the founder of the company was 14 years old had the dream of buying her dream car for her 16th birthday.

So, with only $350.00 she started selling the Living Locket. She started selling to her friends through house parties, and then at boutiques and then in a kiosk at the Chandler mall.

And now has grown her business into a multilevel marketing company with thousands of independent distributors throughout the United States and Canada.

The Products

Have you heard of build a bear?

Well Origami Owl’s Living Locket is like that. The living locket is their flagship product. It’s a hollow pendent that you can fill with a selection of charms that tells your story.

Along with the living locket they also sell necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings and watches. You can see their complete line of products by clicking here.

How Do You Make Money With Origami Owl?

Their compensation plan is like other MLM compensation plans. You have 2 ways of making money.

First you can make money through retail sales. This is pretty straight forward. You’ll earn a commission between 30% to 50% of any products you sell.

The next way of earning money is by recruiting people into your business (downline). By doing this you can work your way up the ranks within the compensation plan. And by doing so earn the bonuses that are available at those ranks.

Of course, you must meet certain criteria at each level to be eligible for the bonus at any particular rank.

Below is a screenshot of their compensation plan outlining the ranks and requirements needed to reach each rank.

So, Can You Expect To Make Money With Origami Owl?

Their mission may be to inspire and help women reach their dreams with a life changing opportunity. But their own income disclosure statement sure tells another story.

Below is a screen shot of their 2018 income disclosure statement. And this statement is the average earnings of all designers for the year of 2017.

This is the most recent income disclosure they provide and it is through a link at the bottom of their Join Us page on their website.

income disclosure statement

And as you can see out of the 93% of designers that are considered active 62% of them earned a whopping $82.22 for the entire year!! Which left 31% of active designers not earning a single penny.

And the math does not get any better when you look at the higher ranks. 4% of designers earned $2962.08 for the year, which works out to $246.84 per month.

And the percentages of designers that are actually making money fall off the cliff with 0.34% and 0.07% respectively.

You don’t have to be a math whiz to see that this so-called life changing opportunity is far from life changing. With number like these the majority of designers are not even earning minimum wage.

You’re far better off keeping the job you have now.

What I Like About Origami Owl

#1) Good Return Policy

Customers can get a refund or replacement within 30 days of purchase. And if a product has a manufacturers defect you can make a claim within 90 days from the time of purchase.

#2) Low Startup Costs

If you purchase the Virtual Collections Kit it’s only going to cost you $49.00 to get your business up and running.

#3) Decent Commissions

You can earn between 30% and 50% commission for retail sales. That’s pretty decent compared to other MLM companies.

#4) Opportunity

For the right person there is a legitimate busines opportunity.

What I Didn’t Like About Origami Owl

#1) Product Complaints

There are a lot of negitive reviews when it comes to the quality of the products. Including complaints regarding delivery issues, refund/exchange and customer service. There is even a warning regarding these issues on the Better Business Bureau website.

#2) Low Success Rate

The business model is based on the MLM business model. And it’s a known fact that this business model favors the companies not the people that get involved. And that’s proven by their own income disclosure statement.

This business model is designed to sell more products for the company. NOT create new business partners. You’re a customer not a business partner.

Plus, you do not own your business. Everything you’re using to build your business is an asset of Origami Owl. You own nothing!! So you’re not 100% in control of your business. Which means your business can be taken away from you at any time.

3) Must Love Sales

The reality is this is nothing more than a commissioned sales job. The only way you’re going to make money is by constantly selling the products. And also constantly trying to sell people on the idea of joining your business.

So you really have to be good at sales if you want to make this business profitable.

My Final Opinion Of Origami Owl

Yes, there is a business opportunity available. But their own income disclosure statement shows that the majority of people that get involved will make no money.

Plus, they really like to push the old school and outdated method of marketing using the in-home party plan.

Sure, this will work for a while by getting your friends and family to attend a party. But after a while it’s going to get much more difficult to find new customers using this type of marketing.

And remember Origami Owl is offering this opportunity to everyone. And with no designated territories, you could have more than one designer selling in the same area where you live.

Personally, this is not something I would get involved with. I just don’t see a real opportunity here. But hey that’s me.

Maybe you’re a superstar salesperson and you can crush this business. And if that’s the case, then go for it and I wish you nothing but success.

But if you’re like most people and have no desire to hold in-home parties and have to become a salesperson as well as a serial recruiter to get people into your business to grow a business doesn’t sound like much fun. Don’t worry you’re not alone.

But here’s the thing. There is a far better way of making money online that does NOT involve becoming a salesperson. Nor does it involve ever having to recruit anyone to build your business.

Plus unlike MLM you’re in 100% control and ownership of your business.

And that better way is Affiliate Marketing.

Now the great thing about affiliate marketing is you can build your business around any hobby or passion you have. So, if your passion is jewelry you can build a thriving online homebased business around your passion for jewelry without joining an MLM.

In fact, it makes no difference what hobby or passion you have. You can turn any hobby or passion into a full time online income with affiliate marketing.

Now I’m not sure if you’ve heard of affiliate marketing and how it works? And if you haven’t that’s ok. You have access to one of the best resources where you can learn all about affiliate marketing. And that place is Wealthy Affiliate.

Since 2005 they’ve been providing people all the training, tools, resources, and personal one-on-one mentoring to help people build wildly successful affiliate marketing businesses around a person’s hobby or passion.

Now I have no idea if affiliate marketing is the path that’s going to work for you. But I do know it makes sense to see how affiliate marketing compares with MLM allowing you to make an informed decision as to which path is best for you.

And you can see everything wealthy affiliate has to offer you absolutely free.
