My Directory Of Ezines Review – A Great Resource

doe I’ve been a member of the directory of ezines since 2008, and I’ve been asked by few of my long time readers if I could do a directory of ezines review and my experience with the directory of ezines.

So here’s my my review of the DOE.

Now the DOE has gone through some changes and updates over the years. But have these updates been a benefit to the membership or not? Personally I’ve found some additions have been good while others have not.

Now one thing about the directory of ezines is people tend to make the mistake of thinking it’s similar to other directories such as the Ezine Article Directory which is a sharing site for articles, and in many cases useless garbage articles at that.

The Directory Of Ezines is nothing like that, the DOE is a database of high quality ezines that sell advertising, publish articles and do joint ventures.

My Directory Of Ezines Review

Product Name: Directory Of Ezines
Website: directoryofezines.com
Price: $197 – lifetime membership
Owner: Charlie Page
Ranking: 8 Out Of 10

So What Is The Directory Of Ezines?

Ok, before I get to much further I should explain what an Ezine is.

An ezine is simply an online magazine or newsletter that is delivered to a list of opt in subscribers by email on a regular basis. And some of these ezine mailing list can reach in the millions.

And there are just as many ezines as there are topics. So no matter what niche you’re in there is probably an ezine dedicated to it.

The directory of ezines is owned by Charlie Page. And Charlie is one of the most respected online marketers on the planet because of his products and his integrity.

Charlie started his online career using the directory of ezines to make money online. He became so successful that just a short 18 months later he bought the directory of ezines, and that was well over 10 years ago.

As I mentioned the DOE is a database of high quality ezines that you can use to quickly find ezines that sell advertising, publish articles or do joint ventures with.

Using this database is far more efficient than trying to source out ezines through typical search engines queries. Plus there is a huge vetting process you need to do using the search engines to find an appropriate ezine.

With the DOE all the ezines have been checked out for you. This is a real time saver, because you know you’re dealing with a reputable ezine.

Who Is The Directory Of Ezines For?

The Directory Of Ezines is for any online marketer that wants to use ezine advertising as part of their overall marketing strategy. And it’s a fantastic marketing method for affiliate marketing.

The huge advantage of ezine advertising is before you spend one dime on any advertising you know exactly who and where your target market is. And knowing this information is pure gold!!

For example if you have a website all about remote controlled cars. All you need to do is search for ezines that cater to remote controlled cars and then advertise in those ezines to that extremely targeted market.

Now with that said ezine advertising can be expensive. And the reason is, no matter how much research you do, you still have to spend money on the advertising which you will not know works until you spend the money.

And in my experience no ad is a home run right out of the gate. So there is a lot of testing and tweaking of the ad until it’s a money producing ad. And this all takes money to do.

How Does The DOE Work?

Yes there is a lot inside the DOE but at its core the directory of ezines is a database of ezines. This database is updated every week by adding new ezines and getting rid of poor ezines.

Within the DOE you’ll find all kinds of ezines within 16 different categories. Simply choose the category the best suits the product or service that you’re promoting.

DOE ezines

So if you’re promoting a health product, you would choose the Health and Fitness category to see which ezines the DOE has listed. Currently at the time of this review there are 13 ezines listed.

Each listing will tell you the following:

  • Circulation
  • Frequency
  • Publishing company
  • Location
  • Publising price
  • Type Of Avertising Offered (solo ads, sponsor, banner, classified or eblast)
  • If advertising space is offered on the publishers website
  • Any discounts
  • Link to the publishers website
  • If the accept articles

Here’s a little nugget for you.

Many people are not aware that you can use the DOE for a resource not only for ezine advertising but also for targeted article marketing (guest posting).

Website owners are always looking for high quality content, it’s one less thing they have to do if they can use a great article written by someone else. This is a fantastic way of getting yourself in front of a very targeted audience, and for free.

Now I’ve done plenty of ezine advertising and have also written many articles for publishers. And if you’ve advertised in an ezine and then ask to have one of your articles published in the same ezine, you’re chances of having your article published does tend to go up.

Now I’m not saying publishers are bias this way, but having advertised with a publisher you’ve already established some level of rapport with that publisher.

What’s the Price?

The DOE has a one time payment of $197. Well worth the price for a lifetime membership. There are never any added cost once inside the members area.

And anything added to the DOE is included with your membership. And as it’s listed through ClickBank you have a 60 day money back guarantee.

toolsWhat Training and Tools Can You Expect?

You can expect a TON of training all of which is done by Charlie Page. I will admit some of the courses and training is at the basic level but it’s still very useful.

Take the affiliate marketing course for example. It’s a good basic course to get a good understanding of affiliate marketing. But it’s no where near the level of training you would get with other independent course’s such as Wealthy Affiliate.

I’ve have many of Charlies products and I can say from personal experience his level of support both personally and from his support staff is some of the best in the online world.

What I Liked About The Directory Of Ezines

There is so much I like about the DOE including;

  • Owned by Charlie Page. One of the most respected online marketers and trainers around today.
  • One time payment for a lifetime membership.
  • No upsells
  • No additional fees for anything added to the members area in the future.
  • 60 day money back guarantee.
  • More than just a ezine directory it’s also a learning center for many other areas of online marketing.
  • Top notch support from Charlie himself and his staff.
  • The rewards center.
  • Great affiliate program.

What I Didn’t Like

  • There is a ton of information and it can be overwhelming.
  • No free trial
  • Charlie has suspended his free one-on-one consultations.
  • Some of the course training is very basic.
  • Some of the training is copied information from his blog posts.
  • Ezine advertising can be expensive when just starting out.

temp-netwiseprofits.siterubix.com My Final Opinion

I have purchased many of charlie’s programs simply because they over deliver in every way. And the Directory Of Ezines is no different.

Even though the DOE is a great resource one thing you must be aware of is, ezine advertising can be very expensive at the beginning.

There is a learning curve. And the biggest issue people have is writing an ad that converts. And to do this you need to test your ad and this costs money.

Ad prices can be as low as $50 per ad for a classified ad, while solo ads can easily get into the hundreds of dollars. And if you’re doing a lot of testing, which can happen be prepared to spend money. But like any paid advertising set a budget and stick to it.

Once you’ve created an ad that converts, you can then roll it out to more and more ezine advertisers.

There a many other ways to promote and build your business that cost a lot less and in many cases can be done for free.

What I do love about the DOE is that the ezines that are in the directory have to go through a vetting process. Meaning not just any old ezine can become part of the directory, they have to meet certain requirements to be included in the directory.

I’ve done a lot of ezine advertising and I must say the DOE is a great resource to lean on when doing such advertising. Especially for affiliate marketing.

So I do recommend checking out the directory of ezines. It would be a great addition to your overall marketing strategy.

Combining the DOE with the right up to date training for affiliate marketing and you’ll have one very powerful marketing machine.

    • Hey Mark,

I’m glad you enjoyed my review. If you want to learn to do ezine advertising Charlie is definitely your guy.

I’ve been a follower and student of Charlie’s for a very long time and he is one of the few guys I trust online. I’ve also had the privilege of being trained by him in other areas of marketing besides ezine advertising. When it comes to marketing he knows his stuff that’s for sure.

      Thanks for dropping by.

    • Hey Mark,

It can be a big boost to sales that’s for sure.

And there are so many services and programs available online, I’m not to surprised you and others have not heard of the DOE. Members in the wealthy affiliate mention programs and services I’ve never heard of all the time.

There is so much available when you think about it. But only buy what you need, you don’t want to end up spending money on programs or services you rarely or never use.

      Cheers

  3. 8/10 huh?
    That’s pretty damn good.
If it wasn’t for that price tag I’d give the DOE a try. It sounds like something that would really help me.
Do you think Mr. Page would ever slash 50% off of the price tag? (Wishful thinking)
    Cheers, Leo.

    • Hey Julian,

I don’t think that will ever happen, as long as I can remember the price has always been $197.00. It would be nice if he had something like a 7 day trial for “X” amount of dollars.

This would allow more people to give it a test drive – and really see if it’s something they want to use. But again I don’t think that would ever happen either.

      Thanks for popping by

  4. Hi Leo,

Thank you for the comprehensive write up on Directory of Ezine. It sounds awesome apart from the price, but it sounds like something worth looking into at a later date for me.

With the banner ads, is there much turn around with click and conversions from them? I know at one time they were not worth considering as it was said that visitors to sites had become blind to them.

    • Hey Lis,

Banner ads are in my opinion one of the worst ways of advertising today. The CTR is horrible, in fact the click thru rate on average is 1 in 1000. There are far better ways to spend your money then on banner advertising.

My advice is don’t waste your money on banner advertising.

Glad you liked my review, and thanks for popping by.

  5. Hello Leo, I have to say you have provided really good information for that thank you. After reading your review on the Directory of Ezines I have learnt a lot on what is it about. Since I am an affiliate marketer too, this would really come in handy to me in the near future.
Would like to know more on your personal experience, how the Directory of Ezines have helped you.

    • Hi Kumar,

Glad you liked the review. I’ve used ezine advertising many times for other niches and had great success with them. Like I mentioned in the review optimizing the conversion takes time and you do have to test things to get the best producing ad.

But the trick to that is to advertise in ezines that have a lower subscription base. These ezines tend to charge less for ads, so this will keep your costs down while your tweaking and testing your ad. And once you have developed an ad that really converts you can now place it in higher subscription ezines and more of them. Oh I should mention I only do solo advertising.

A solo ad is just your ad that goes out to the ezine owners mailing list nothing else is sent. I did do a post where I go into more detail about ezine advertising. You can check it out here if you like.

      Thanks for popping by.

      Cheers

  6. Hi Leo:

Thank you for your review of Directory of Ezines. Is there a FREE trail period with Directory of Ezines like there is with Wealthy Affiliate? It does not sound like it. I know they have a 60 day money back guarantee but it is always nice if you can try something out before you buy it – try it before you buy it. Also, being I a new affiliate marketer, I had some questions: what is the difference between a solo ad and a sponsored ad and can they be same thing as banner ads? So many new affiliate marketers do not yet know what all the terms mean. Thank you for this helpful review.

    • Hi Steph,

No there is no free trial. I thought I had that in the review – guess not. I have now added it.

A solo ad is just your ad that goes out to the ezine owners mailing list nothing else is sent. A solo ad is like a small sales letter. Most solo ads are no more than 500 words long.

A sponsored ad which there are three different kinds – a Top Sponsor Ad, a Middle Sponsor Ad and a Bottom Sponsored Ad. As each name suggests they are placed either at the top, middle or bottom of the ezine itself.

And as for Banner Ads these is a completely different method of advertising that has nothing to do with ezine advertising. Banners ads are placed on a website usually at the top in the sites header or you’ll find them in a websites sidebar.

I also did a post all about ezine advertising and I go into more detail about the ads and other aspects of ezine advertising. You can read that post by clicking here.

I hope I answered all your question sufficiently – if you have any additional questions please don’t hesitate asking, and thanks for popping by.

      Cheers
