Clickbank University Review – Is What They’re Doing Ethical?

clickbankProduct Name: Clickbank University
Price: $47 per month
Owner(s): Matt Hullet, Adam Horwitz, Justin Atlan
Ranking: 4 Out Of 10

If you’ve seen the Clickbank University’s sales page, then you know it claims to be able to make you one of its newest millionaires. It claims that over 1000 millionaires have currently been made on Clickbank, and that you could be next.

Does the training inside of the members’ area actually deliver on this promise?

Also, is Clickbank University really an ethical organization to be involved with? These are the questions that will be answered in the review below.

So Who Are Matt Hullet, Adam Horwitz, Justin Atlan

Before I get into this review I thought it best you know the players in this program.

Ok first of there is Matt Hullet. Other than being the CEO of clickbank and the decision maker for clickbank he has no real involvement with the clickbank university.

Next is Adam Horwitz. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you may recognize his name as he was the creator of the less than stellar program called Mobile Monopoly of which I did a review of.

Adam has had a few sites most of which are now gone except his still crappy mobile monopoly site is still functioning.

And finally Justin Atlan. Not much is know about him other than his product/site, is no longer around.

So What Is Clickbank University?

Clickbank University is a product that was created by Adam Horwitz and Justin Atlan. It’s actually designed to be a little bit different than the majority of Internet marketing training courses that are currently available on the market.

How is it different?

Well, for starters, it not only teaches you how to make money by promoting other people’s products through affiliate marketing, it also teaches you how to make money creating your own informational products.

It does actually provide a pretty good training environment that covers a lot of different topics when it comes to creating your own products. With that said, I do have one major issue with the program.

That issue is that Clickbank is taking advantage of all of the customers that other product creators and affiliate marketers have brought to Clickbank over the last several years, as well as all of the different customers that are currently being brought to the Clickbank marketplace.

How are they doing this?

Clickbank is literally stealing customers from other product creators and trying to sell them the Clickbank University product.

They are doing this by capturing email addresses from customers when they purchase other products on the Clickbank marketplace and then sending them offers to join Clickbank University.

Yes, you read that correctly. If you create a product designed to teach people Internet marketing or are an affiliate for product on Clickbank that teaches people how to learn Internet marketing, then you are empowering your own competition.

Once someone has made a purchase of another product, the bank will then market the Clickbank University product to them. On top of this, you won’t receive any commission if someone decides to purchase the Clickbank University product through this sales funnel.

In all honesty, Clickbank is literally stealing customers from hard-working product creators and other affiliate marketers. This is why I have a major ethical problem with the Clickbank University product.

Who Is Clickbank University For?

Clickbank University is designed to be for newcomers as well as intermediate to advanced Internet marketers.

Since it offers modules that teach both product creation as well as affiliate marketing, there are quite a few different learning opportunities available for marketers of all levels.

Aside from the ethical consequences, the biggest problem that I have with Clickbank University is that it unlocks modules when it feels as though you are ready to learn the course material.

For advanced marketers, this means you will be unable to access modules on specific topics such as CPC marketing until Clickbank determines you are ready for them. This is of course designed so that you pay for more than one month of the training.

How Does It Work?

Once your sign into the members’ area, there are multiple modules that will teach you how to create products or market other people’s products.

As previously mentioned, the problem with this is that several of the modules are locked out and you cannot view them until a certain amount of time has passed.

Since this membership model is based on a monthly fee, you can rest assured that you will have to pay for several months in order to access all of the training that’s available on the site.

Now there is a workaround for this, but it’s very expensive.

If you’re willing to pay for a yearly membership for $359, then you can access all of the modules at your own pace. In my opinion, this seems a bit ridiculous as you should be able to work at your own pace, regardless of whether or not you’re a monthly or yearly member.

www.netwiseprofits.comWhat’s The Price Of Clickbank University?

Clickbank University comes in a couple of different price points.

First, you can pay $47 a month and work at the pace determined appropriate by the training product. Your other option is to pay $359 in order to work at your own pace.

Are There Any Upsells?

Astoundingly, with the product that is running at such a high price point, there are several upsells offered during the checkout process.

The first upsell that you are offered is for the Clickbank Website Builder at a price tag of $297 a year. Honestly, this is completely unnecessary as you can build quality websites with WordPress and do it for free.

If you choose to not take the annual website builder upsell offer, you’re then taken to a downsell to pay quarterly for it rather than annually.

After this, you are presented with an option to sign up for the Clickbank advanced master class for $97. Again, if you opt out of this offer you are then sent to a downsell page offering the same product in a two payment installment option.

What Training And Tools Can You Expect?

The training and tools that are offered by Clickbank University are actually pretty high quality.

You’re provided with multiple modules that will teach you how to create your own informational products or to make money as an affiliate marketer by selling other people’s informational products.

While the training is actually worthwhile, the main issue that I have with it are the ethical implications of Clickbank stealing other people’s customers in order to market to them itself.

supportHow’s The Support?

It’s often very difficult to find support in the Clickbank University. This is one of the biggest issues that I actually have with the program.

They do have an area where you can submit questions at any time, but many of these questions go unanswered.

On a positive note, they do offer a weekly live question and answer class for members.

On the downside, if you’re unavailable for the times that these classes are offered, then you will quickly find yourself struggling to get quality support for your issues.

What I Liked About Clickbank University

Aside from the major concern that I have about Clickbank University’s ethics, there were a few things that I liked about the program including:

  • Quality Training – The product does have quite a bit of good training for both product creators as well as affiliate marketers.
  • Decent Support Through Weekly Sessions – While the general support area is pretty barren, the weekly Q&A sessions offered by the product creators are worthwhile to attend.

What I Didn’t Like

Unfortunately, due to the ethics involved with this product, there were many more things that I did not like about it than what I did, including:

  • VERY Questionable Ethics – As mentioned several times in this review, I have a major problem with Clickbank stealing customers from other hard-working product creators and affiliate marketers.
  • Lack Of General Support – Far too many questions went unanswered in the general support area in my opinion. While the weekly Q&A’s are great, there are too many people who would be unable to attend during the time frame that they are going on.
  • Several Holes In The Training – The core training provided by this product is very high quality. With that said, there are numerous areas that a lot more explanation is needed. Areas such as SEO, for example, are not covered in near enough detail to give people a strong enough knowledge base.

Make Sure You Know How The Clickbank Accounting Game Works

Besides this product and other ones, you need to be familiar with the creative accounting at clickbank.

You need to meet the Customer Distribution Requirement and set your Payment Threshold. You payment threshold cna be as low as $10, but it is preset at $100.

As for the customer distribution requirement….

Clickbank will withhold payment of any balance until an account shows a minimum of 5 sales using at least two of the following payment methods:

  • American Express
  • Carte Bleue
  • Diners Club
  • Discover
  • ELV (European Direct Debit)
  • JCB
  • Maestro
  • MasterCard
  • PayPal
  • Visa

Any refunds that you have as a vendor, you’ll be charged a fee. And this fee is determined by a percentage. If you have to many refunds you can be charged additional fees above the set fees in the clickbank agreement or you can be punted from the network and they will keep your money.

If your account is dormant meaning you’re not making any sales. Watch the money in your account slowly disappear. Your account is going be charged a monthly fee for being dormant.

You can read all of clickbank’s accounting policies here. You can also find more information here about earning commissions and getting paid.

my opinionMy Final Opinion

I’ve been on both sides of the fence with clickbank. Both as an affiliate and a vendor. And back then (2003) they were a good affiliate network. Now they have the reputation of having less and less quality products.

And now with the clickbank university, they are literally directly competing with their members and using their members sales as a way to market their product.

To me that’s sleazy marketing. And showing no respect to the members of clickbank. And proves just how unethical these guys really are.

And honestly, I really wanted to like this product.

It does provide a lot of good training for both product creators as well as affiliate marketers. Unfortunately, the ethics behind stealing customers from other hard-working product creators and marketers really cinches it for me.

For that reason, I truly can’t recommend Clickbank University as I feel as though it’s designed to siphon customers from other hard-working online entrepreneurs.
I hope you found this review helpful and I hope I answered any questions you may have had about it.
